Norman Parkinson (British, 1913-1990)
Norman Parkinson was active for over fifty years and was instrumental in taking portrait and fashion photography beyond the stiff formality of his predecessors and injecting an easy and casual elegance into his images. His work for magazines including Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, Town and Country and Queen provides a comprehensive and unique record of the development of photography and fashion from the 1940’s to 1990. His photographs of celebrities, artists, and the British Royal Family, as well as leading figures from the worlds of film, theatre, politics and music are known throughout the world and have become icons of twentieth century style.
